From Java
Scepters in one form or another have been around since early prehistoric times. Generally speaking scepters are ornamented rods or staffs that were borne by rulers on ceremonial occasions as an emblem of authority and sovereignty.
This great item was hand carved in the Solo River Valley, Java from siltstone by local natives. The stone blades are nicely polished and the handle is make of wood. This would make a great addition to anyones collection interested in fossils, paleontology, archaeology and human origins. The photo just does not due justice to the rich and varied color of the stone head.
