Larger than T. rex, this intimidating meat-eater is one of the lost dinosaur of Egypt. Spinosaurus was first discovered in the early 1900's by German paleontologist Ernst von Stromer. During the second World War, Allied bombs inadvertently destroyed the only significant remains of the sail-backed predator. Today, Spinosaurus is only known from a few bones wrestled from the Sahara over the last hundred years. Despite the great desert's unwillingness to give up it's secret a second time, researchers have recently returned to Africa hoping to find more evidence of Spinosaurus and other dinosaurs.
In 2001, Spinosaurus was featured in the new summer blockbuster Jurassic Park III. In the film, the 50' long predator goes head-to-head with a T. rex in a fatal battle of the titans.
It has been suggested that Spinosaurus ate fish because of it's crocodile-shaped skull. However, other scientists disagree, even crocs have a more diverse diet than fish. Now you can own a life size cast of a claw from this terrible carnivore.
